It’s been a while since I’ve been in touch with many of you. Much has changed for all of us, and my hope with this newsletter is to begin communicating (somewhat) regularly with you via this medium. It’s not as good as sharing a laugh together in person, of course, but perhaps this message’s arrival in your inbox will remind us to connect in other, non-digital ways. Please do reach out. I’d love to hear from you. A quick update: I’ve transitioned full-time into academia, working as the program manager for the Mississippi Delta National Heritage Area (managed by the Delta Center for Culture and Learning at Delta State University) since 2019. In August I will be back in the classroom, as I’ve accepted a teaching position at Troy University, located in the Black Belt of Alabama. This move from the Mississippi Delta has not been an easy decision, but it is a necessary one. I do hope to return often. In 2020 I completed my MFA in Studio Art from the Maine College of Art and this year wrapped up my MA in Journalism from the University of Mississippi. During that time I’ve also worked hard developing a non-profit space for thinkers and makers on our family farm. You can read more about it below. And though it’s been two years since publication, I do want to mention my book Po’ Monkey’s: Portrait of a Juke Joint. There are a few copies left. Let me know if you’d like a signed version. I’ll be sending these email updates a few times a year. Quarterly at best. Biannually at worst. So don’t worry - I won’t bombard you with these too often. I am also starting regular print sales and will create a separate list for those updates.
