Behind-the-scenes of student installation of final projects from The Malvina Project, a semester-long examination of a rural community in the Mississippi Delta. Students explored large format cameras and on-location portrait lighting techniques, while learning about this once vibrant area that now has only eight residents. The general public was invited to the pop-up exhibit and final critique where part of each student’s final assignment was to give a short presentation about their experience.

Close-up of a wall of polaroids created as part of a semester-long project titled A Portrait for a Story. Student’s would set up in the patio outside the art department and use large format cameras to create polaroid portraits of campus members in exchange for a story from that person. One polaroid was given to the subject, one went on the wall, and the student photographer and subject each kept the memory of the story.

Students work on site to photograph sculptures created by a classmate.
